Story in a nutshell:

This romantic tale will surely make you fall in love with it. The story revolves around Naina and Nihal. Naina is a career oriented girl who is scared to fall in love. Reason? Her past relationship which left her with bitter memories. She leaves her hometown in search of a new life and ends up in an event management company. During an event, she happens to meet the dashing Nihal. She is intrigued by his personality and his talks. She can't help herself from thinking about him. Has she fallen in love? Does she confess her feelings? What does Nihal feel about Naina?

Review:

There are a few books out there which make you feel like you are watching a movie. Shradha's book is one among them. The story begins with happy moments. The ride gets a little bumpy somewhere in between and ultimately ends on a happy note. The narration is in third person and is done from the point of view of both, Naina and Nihal. It is simple and engaging. The lucid language makes a wonderful reading experience. The characters aren't many. There is Naina's boss, her mother, her brother, her friends and Nihal's father and his friends. Each have a note-making role to play in this love story. I liked the fact that the authoress made it a point to involve all of them in significant parts. The incidents have been properly placed. The story becomes unpredictable sometimes and that is what keeps you hooked onto it.

Should I fall in love is a romantic treat for all romance lovers out there. It is well suited to be converted into a movie.

Are you a working lady? Are you having responsibilities as a wife or a mother? Do you too sometimes get into confusions over prioritizing personal and professional decisions? If yes, we have got all your feelings grabbed in this piece of 'art'.

Nainika's pleasant life suddenly went haywire when she received an SOS call from her mother. Her mother was barely able to speak over the phone and almost cried out in pain. Nainika ran home to find her mom sprawled on the floor, unable to move, That very moment she realized that life has brought her to face a whirlpool of emotions. On one hand her dutiful care towards her mother and on the other her undying love and responsibility towards her husband and a future that lay ahead, Her mind was in a stage of confusion as she began to ponder.

What will Nainika do to overcome this phase? Whom would she choose? Will she stay to nurse her mother back to health or partner her husband to the USA?

Story in a nutshell:

Life often places us in situations where we have to make choices. Sometimes, between good and bad while sometimes between good and best or bad and worse. We cannot just ignore these choices. Decisions need to be taken. Choices need to be done. Nainika is placed between her ailing mother and her career and her family. She is placed between the devil and the sea. On one hand, she wishes to stay besides her mother and take care of her. On the other hand, she wants to pursue her career. She wants to stay with her daughter who us studying abroad. A talk with her husband, Prithvi makes her realise a few things. She makes a decision. What decision does she make? Does it help in stregthening her ties with her parents? Are they really happy with her decision?

Review:

Myriad of Emotions is a short book that runs through approximately 135 pages. The story is set in the city of Bangalore and is much relatable. It's not a common story of teenage romance. Most of the books that come out in market these days are teenage romances. There are lesser number of books when it comes to parent-child relationship. Myriad of Emotions is a story of parent-child relationship. The protagonist, Nainika is a married lady who cares for her mother as much as she loves her career. Responsibilities and duties play a vital role in everybody's life. Nainika's love for her parents is no doubt unconditional. Prithvi is Nainika's husband and plays a great support to her. Her parents, Kaushalya and Vasudevan are doting parents, though the later one doesn't express it frequently. There is another character who enters the story like a morning sun. She is Chaturvi - a bubbly young girl. The narration is in third person narrative with lucid language. The pace of the book is fast.

Likes:
  • Nainika's unconditional love for her parents.
  • Chaturvi and her 'Hope for the Aged'
  • Kaushalya and Vasudevan's try in re-building their relationship.

Dislikes:
  • The plot could have been strengthened with more incidents. The end of the story came real soon. I kept wondering why the authoress kept this book short when she could write much more.
  • The book is, no doubt, an emotional one. But it could have been more. I felt it kinda contrasting with the title.
  • Also, Chaturvi plays a very important role in the story. But there isn't a single mention about her in the blurb. I felt that it was unfair.

Myriad of Emotions will certainly be a great book if you want to take a break from romance. It will change your perspective on relationships. It will serve as a good read on Sunday evenings.

Book Review: Thank You Love by Ayush Gupta

Thank You Love - Book Cover

Book Name: Thank You Love

Author: Ayush Gupta

Publisher: Half Baked Beans

Price: Rs. 175

Blurb:

"Thank You Love" "...yes, I said, everything in life is uncertain, and it speaks the same." All human energy comes from that one thought. All the pain that we bear and the joys that we celebrate are the results of our thoughts at any moment. Strange isn't it? When Akshita was making her choices, Rayan made his. He refused to get over her and chose to own her absence in his heart and mind . Thank You Love describes how sitting on the floor in silence changed the world of "Rayan". He realized that love is not something that happens between two people, instead it's an enduring quality within people. He realized that love is not something that you do, but is the way you are. He re-moulds one of the most important event of his life into a spark, re-channelizes it and heads towards something that would later change the course of his life.

Story in a nutshell:

'Relationship is part of our life. It is not our life.'

Many of us must have heard this. But have any of us actually put it into practice? Have any of us given a thought that if we are placed in a situation would we hold the above statement in regard?
Meet Rayan, a working guy, who has been in relationship with Akshita, his college mate since almost 4 years. As one grows older, his priorities change. He starts to think maturely. Akshita changes too once she moves to Bangalore. Her priorities change and Rayan's incessant calls and messages begin to bother her. She calls off the relationship. Rayan is hurt. How does he cope with this breakup? Why is the book titled 'Thank You Love'?

Review:

The story is about teenage love and hence, will appeal to most teenagers. The protagonist, Rayan narrates to a stranger the story of his love life. When most stories involve talking about love life to friends or diaries, this talk with stranger seemed to be a novel idea. The story takes you through ups and downs of Rayan's life. The first person narrative makes you feel instantly connected with the protagonist. The language is simple and lucid. The transition from the past to present hasn't been done quite well. There are many instances where the reader could get confused.

Coming to the part that I liked about the book, the lesson about the chakras is enlightening. You will truly begin to wonder the effect of meditation. This reading of this chapter alone will make you feel calm and peaceful.

Now comes the part I disliked. You open any page of the book, all that you'll find is Akshita. Rayan keeps talking about her and their breakup throughout. I know that the story is about their love but Rayan and his talks bore you to the core and you begin to wonder when he is going to come out of it. The middle section of this book is really boring. You'll tend to skip reading a few pages. I have never met a guy as sensitive as Rayan. I felt like everything has been exaggerated out of proportion. The book failed to create that emotional impact. There are a few editing errors in the book. Also, the typesetting needs a thorough revision.

I would like to conclude saying 'Thank You Love' is a one-time read. If you are someone who likes to read teenage love, go for it.

I rate:

Cover: 2/5
Characters: 3/5
Story: 2.5/5

I rate 'Thank You Love' with 2.5/5 stars.

She writes everything about how she feels and what she does in order to strengthen her relationship in her diary.

Review:

I was astonished the moment I finished reading the book. How could a  man write about the feelings of a woman so well. The feelings she has for her husband, the love she has for him, the insecurities she faces, her desires and her wishes - everything is aptly conveyed. As the novel is a diary entry, it's in first person narrative. It has been done well. You'll feel as if Marilyn herself is talking to you.

Would you give up your high-paying job and comfortable personal life to drive ten thousand kilometres across India? Just for fun!Three twenty-something's dare to do just that! While the two boys take turns to drive, the girl gives voice-over as they record their entire journey on a handy cam.Ab, Sasha and Unnati are ordinary youngsters, rendered special by the feat they accomplish. As they recount their adventures, I crave to live their journey. They look at each other with a glint in their eyes, as if refurbishing those memories while narrating their spooky time at Bhangarh Fort, strange escapades at Wagah Border and Sundarbans, car breakdowns, wild animals, near-death experiences and highway robbers! It's nothing less than crazy.
I doubted if I'd ever have the gumption to create such experiences. So I did the next best thing - I penned a book about them and their road trip.

Colorful Notions is a journey of three young hearts on the Indian terrain and into the inner recesses of their souls, giving a new perspective to relationships, love and life.

Review:

The mere word 'Road trip' excited me and all I wanted to do was dive into this book as soon as I received it. Right from the first page to the last, my enthusiasm or excitement remained intact. Colourful Notions is an exciting read.

The story, as the blurb says, is about the road trip the three friends - Abhay, Sashank and Unnati take. The story talks about their journey, the fun moments, the adventurous escapades and the gloomy times. I loved the way the author has named the chapters. The chapter names make you want to read the book. I finished reading this book in one seating. Colorful Notions is like a mixed fruit jam. Each incident contributes evenly to the book. The narration is in first person narrative and steals the show. It seems realistic and is engaging. The itinerary is well planned. The author has done immense research before penning down the book.

The book also teaches a few life lessons. It fills you with motivation towards the end.

Likes:
  • The friendship between Abhay, Sashank and Unnati.
  • The lovey-dovey couple: Unnati and Sashank.
  • Abhay's innovative ideas.

Dislikes:
  • The description about the places which the road trippers visit is very less. Reading experience would have been enhanced had the description been more.

Book Review: Blemishing the odds by Harish Penumarthi

Blemishing the odds - Book Cover

Book Name: Blemishing the odds

Author: Harish Penumarthi

Publisher: Half Baked Beans

Blurb:

Say hello to Raghav, an immature, insensitive person who is apathetic about everyone else except himself. His life revolves around his parents and his friends. He is among the bad books of all his Teachers. Until one day, when Trisha, a new entrant; mesmerizes him at the very first glance. He finds a friend, savior, nurturer and an inamorata in her. Just when he thinks that everything has been set out in a picture perfect manner, life throws a series of ghastly surprises at him. Will he change for good or stick to his immature stand of "My Life, my rules" and screw it all up? This tale journeys across all the ups and downs a student could possibly encounter. The transformations that a student may endure, the courage and guts one needs to have in order to dodge all predicaments and eventually sketch the perfect end to all his agonies.

Review:

I remember telling my grandmother to narrate to me the stories of her childhood. I was always to hear them from her. 'Blemishing the odds' is one such tale. It will make you nostalgic in the case if you are a parent and excited in the case you are a child. The story will make you visit your school days.

The story is centered around the protagonist, Raghav. He is a spoilt brat. He doesn't study and is never in good books with his teachers. A new girl, Trisha, enters his school and his life. This proves to be a turning point. There will be many of you who will relate to both the characters. The story is an inspiring one. The pace of the story is average. There are many instances in the story where you'll laugh and a few where you'll shed a tear. The story is a tapestry of varied emotions. It will make you believe that not everything in life is permanent. And that destiny is pre-written.

There are a few things which this story teaches you.
  • Never give up.
  • Jealousy is part and parcel of relationships.

Merits:
  • The innocence.

Demerits:
(These are my thoughts.)
  • The story dates back to the times of Kuch Kuch Hota Hain i.e. 1990s. I wonder whether PG owners during those times allowed accommodations to guys and girls to stay together. Secondly, I wonder whether love couple during those times indulged in PDA.

Review:

'The Kissing Circles' can be termed awesome for it has all the qualities that make a novel an extraordinarily good read - attractive cover, interesting blurb, engaging plot and a few morals. The story catches your attention right from the first page. It has been narrated in multiple points of views. This adds a unique flavour to this sumptuous dish. The naming of the chapters too have been done interestingly. The chapter names make you more inquisitive about the story. One cannot term the narration to be completely informal. There are certain elements which make it appear a little formal. The book is rich in vocabulary. The flow of the events too have been thoughtfully done. These perfectly timed events might seem confusing at the first impression but trust me! Its worth it. The story is set up in the beautiful land of Kerala. The story gives you the feel of the state. It will transport you to the place. By the end of your reading session, you are sure to feel like you have visited the place. The story seems realistic.

'The Kissing Circles' is a perfect treat for all book lovers. An awesome read it is!

Pooja musters up courage and leaves her home in hope of a better life only to find herself in a brothel. What does she do? Is she able to get out the brothel?

Review:
The story has an effect to keep you hooked until the very end. You will feel connected with the protagonist, Pooja. The struggle which Pooja goes through will surely make your heart ache. The narration is in third person narrative. The language is simple yet the story engages the readers. The protagonist teaches the readers not to lose hope for hope stands for 'Hold On Pain Ends'. She teaches the readers a lesson of courage.

Rating: 3.5/5 stars.

Love, Corporate and Custody

Story in a nutshell:

Geshna compromises and enrolls herself in a college in her town. Many instances occur where she agrees with Nihal over his decisions, where she ignores her dreams and wishes. Is it worth? Is Geshna really happy?

Review:
Anger, repent and sympathy will emerge in your heart when you read this story. You will surely question yourself whether it was really worth. Love makes you lose many things, people in life and the most irreparable is losing your own self. The narration is in third person and the story manages to keep the reader stuck on to it until the end.

Rating: 3/5 stars.

Madam Bureaucrat

Story in a nutshell:
You are passionate about achieving something. You strive hard inorder to make that dream come true. But during the eleventh hour, some disturbing incident takes place and you lose all the zeal, all the enthusiasm. What will you do when this keeps repeating? Will you give up? What would you do if that 'disturbance' is the person you love the most? Shrawani finds herself in such situation. What is Shrawani's story?

Review:
Madam Bureaucrat is an inspiring story. It teaches you to never give up. Destiny is pre-written. You can't do anything to change it. Accept it the way it is. It also tells you that if it's meant to happen, it will. The protagonist of this story, Shrawani is an ambitious girl. This story will inspire you.

What does she do when Anish enters her life in spite of knowing that she is married? Why is the story titled 'Sin'?

Review:
This story is a confusing one. It places you in a tough situation. At one point of time, you will positive about a particular situation and at some time, you feel bad. Categorizing this story as a good one or bad will lower its importance. There are varied emotions involved. Only a sentimental heart will feel these emotions.

Rating: 4/5 stars.

That rave party night

Story in a nutshell:
What would you do if the person you loved the most betrayed you? What would you do if the person you loved the most treated you like shit? What if cheat, deceit, betrayal are the only words in your loved one's dictionary? Won't you feel angry? Avni doesn't care a bit when Soumya, her best friend asks her to stay away from Jeevak. She ignores her and trusts Jeevak blindly only to realise his falsehood. How does Avni cope with the betrayal?

Review:
I believe that love and hatred coexists. When love leaves, hatred takes its place. Avni exhibits such an emotion in this story. The third person narration with that emotional touch makes this story a good read.

Rating: 3.5/5 stars.

Secrets, Sins and Struggles can be summed up as an emotional and inspiring story collection. The protagonists are strong-willed women who know to take a stand for themselves and make a change in their lives. They are a true source of inspiration.

As their travels and travails continue, they discover hitherto unknown facets of the people around them, as well as their own selves. Can they succeed in resolving the puzzle this time? Or is history doomed to repeat itself? As hidden aspects of the human personality are revealed, they realize that no one is what he or she appears to be. For the world comprises of 'Strangers With Known Faces'.

Review:

The story revolves around 5 characters - Rajat, Meenakshi, Sadaaf, Amol, and Shanaya. Strangers with known faces, as the name suggests, is about those friendships that are broken and forgotten over time. Also, the title hints towards a crime scene. This amalgamation of crime story and that of broken friendships makes this novel an interesting read. The story talks about the present crime scene and then makes you travel the corridors of the college of the 5 characters.

The plot and the characters have been thoughtfully crafted. The mystery and the surprise element is one of the driving aspect of this book. The narration is done in third person. I feel that if narration was done in multiple points of view, it would have created a better impact. There has been use of many new words which will enhance the vocabulary of readers. The narration is engaging one. The curiosity of the preceding incidents lingers in the minds of the readers throughout the reading session.

The book is divided into three sections: The Thinking, The Action and The Beginning. The first section i.e. The Thinking section will urge you to look at your current financial status. You will be required to do a study on it. There's a difference between 'I want to be rich' and 'I commit to be rich.' The first section will make you introspect your financial situation.

The second section i.e. The Action as the name suggests gives you a chance to change, to mend your ways, to design a plan as to how you'll distribute your finance. It also talks about how your assestss help you grow and how by focusing on your Networth you allow your wealth to grow with time.

The third section i.e. The Beginning is the starting phase or the starting point on your path to richness. It focuses on how you can keep growing rich by remembering certain points and following some idealsprinciples.

When you decide to cook something, what do you do? Firstly, you check if you have all the ingredients required to prepare the dish. This is the first section - The Thinking. Second, you bring all the ingredients together and prepare the dish. This is the second section - The Action. And lastly, you serve the dish to your near and dear ones and await their reviews.

Finance - when you hear this word, the first thought that crosses your mind is figures and spreadsheets. Different terms about finance and commerce aren't a cup of tea for all. Not every person can digest all those terminologies and not everyone can comprehend those terms.

However, Wwith his simple and engaging writing, the author has simplified all of it for us. He has explained it all with the help of a story. The lessons and principles of wealth creation & accumulation have been presented through a well plotted fictional story which makes it easier for the readers to correlate with the characters of the book and grasp the lessons easily. Also, many of the money lessons have been presented through pictures and diagrams. So, just remembering these pictures will help you to know whether you are doing right with your money.

I never remembered the dates of wars and battles. My mother would build a story around it and explain the battles to me. At first, I thought it to be really stupid but as the time passed, I started enjoying it. You will have a similar experience reading this book. No word or term in this book will be incomprehensible and you will enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoyed. Further more, the author has added a few diagrams and flowcharts which help you understand the lessons well.

Also, the book not only gives technical understandings which one should know to create wealth, it also provides pointers for behavioral and habitual change one needs to bring in him/herself in order to become rich.

Before reading this book, I was among those people who would say that it is only rich who get richer and richer. But I must say, Tthis book has changed my outlook towards richness. I have now understood that Eevery person born has been given equal opportunities like every other. It depends on how well you utilise these opportunities. This book taught me that becoming rich is not a tedious task. The financial lessons, if followed, will help you in many ways.

You want to be rich. Don't you? Grab your copies now!

Book Review: Incomplete by Ram

Incomplete Book Cover

Book Name: Incomplete - From The Pen of an Immature

Author: Ram

Publisher: Educreation Publishing

Blurb:

"Life is made of twists and turns, and I have experienced it all. Love - the essence of life ... I have experienced that too. I had loved an unknown person. Which definition of love can stand a firm hold than this?" By twenty-eight, Shiv has had a nauseous ride on the emotional roller coaster. Struggling with his responsibilities, he managed to tap his feet romantically with his dream. Yet... the life of Shivraj Rathore remained 'incomplete'. But what happened when his diary reached the girl he loved, the girl who was unknown? Did he complete his story?

Story in a nutshell:

Sunaina receives a letter which states that Shiv is dying and that he wants to see her for the last time. Does she make it on time?

Further on, she receives Shiv's personal diary. She reads it and realises what Shiv had been through. What was Shiv's life all about? Why did he choose Sunaina? Who was Sunaina to him?

Review:

The first impression of the story that is when you read the blurb is like that of a Bollywood film. The guy meets the girl - they fall in love - they spend great time together - they breakup - they realise each other's importance - they get back together again. With this thought in mind, I started reading the book only to be proved wrong towards the end. It is said that you should never judge a book by its cover. I would modify it and say you should never judge a book by its blurb.

The story is a modern day tale that begins with a shocking incident and travels through college days using diary entries. The concept of narrating the story with the help of diary entry always works wonders. The plot is a common one but it is the incidents which make it unique. The narration has been done in first person narrative. The language is simple and sweet. The characters aren't many. Shiv, the protagonist, is a young boy who dreams of becoming an actor. Priya, Shiv's ex-girlfriend, who is head over heels in love with him and Sunaina, the girl whom Shiv loves and the one who is unaware of the depth of his love for her. The other characters are Shiv's parents and his family, his best friend and his working circle. Each character has a dedicated role to play. The incidents have been properly ordered. You won't feel lost anywhere throughout your reading session.

Likes:
  • The protagonist, Shiv - his never-give-up attitude.
  • The love that Shiv felt for Sunaina.

Dislikes:
  • There were a few grammar mistakes here and there. They can be rectified in the next edition.
